An ancient trade, a living Company
The Worshipful Company of Pattenmakers was awarded its Royal Charter in 1670, but is first recorded as a trade association for the makers of pattens in 1379 — the trade itself dating from the 12th century or earlier.
Though the original craft has largely disappeared, the Company is today an important supporter of the footwear sector, drawing its membership from that industry, facilities management and the built environment, the armed services and many other walks of City life.
The Company’s main focuses of activity are charity, fellowship and participation in the life of the City of London.
